An original, completely handmade linocut print which has been designed and printed in Devon, UK.
'Welcome Stranger' is based on an unusual 18th and 19th century tradition where expectant mothers were gifted pincushions with 'Welcome Little Stranger' or similar words to that effect, studded out in pins. This was not only a practical gift for a Georgian-era mother-to-be, but also came with the understanding that 200+ years ago, the baby's gender was truly a surprise: little strangers indeed!
My design here omits the use of the word 'little' as I feel this updated version can equally be appropriate as a quirky, vintage-styled alternative to a 'Welcome Home' or 'Welcome to Our Home' sign!
Available in dark emerald green on light green Japanese Kitakata Paper.
This print is an Open Edition (O/E), and each one is titled and signed by me.
DIMENSIONS:
Printed image size: 5" x 2.75" approx
Total size (incl. paper): 6" x 4" approx
The print/s are unmounted.
Important: I cannot guarantee that your printed item will be the exact one shown in the example photographs in the shop. As everything is handmade, there will inevitably be some slight variations with each printing; likewise coloured prints with hand-mixed inks may vary slightly in pigment between batches. This is all part of the charm and uniqueness of your purchase, as no two items will be exactly the same! If the paper has been cut or torn by hand, please also expect very minor differences in size.
